E Ink and Oricom Launch Color E-paper Advertising Billboards

Next-generation advertising display billboard

E Ink, the global leader in electronic paper, and Oricom announced today that they have jointly developed a new generation of advertising display boards called “Sustainable Boards”, which are equipped with E Ink Spectra™ 6, E Ink's latest color electronic paper technology. Through its own sales channels, Oricom will provide customers with a new media technology that will help advertisers deliver their messages in a more sustainable way, promoting an unprecedented, environmentally friendly and innovative approach to advertising.

The Sustainable Board, launched under Oricom's own brand “Mirapale ”*1, is an innovative “sustainable media playback system” for corporate advertisers. Not only does it use the least amount of energy to achieve the most powerful visual effect, but it also actively communicates a company's commitment to sustainability and care for the planet. By focusing on this area of information dissemination, it highlights the social responsibility of advertisers and is an important tool for companies to make concrete contributions to environmental protection.

We are very pleased to work with Oricom, an industry leader with a long history, to expand the possibilities of advertising and technology with the launch of e-paper billboards," said Ji-Mao Hong, Vice President of Business Center of Yuantai Technology. The world is moving towards a new era of environmental protection and sustainable development, and e-paper is the best sustainable display interface for this new era. We hope that more advertisers will benefit from the innovation of the medium, and we believe that through our partnership with Oricom, we will be able to jointly promote the practice of sustainable development in society."

Akemi Nakajima, General Manager of Oricom, added: "If companies can take a long-term view and commit to environmental protection and social responsibility, they will be able to develop communication methods that are highly compatible with this. Sustainable billboards are one of the key tools that we have launched together with Yuantai Technology. In the future, we will deepen our cooperation with YuanTai to create sustainable development for enterprises and society."

The sustainable billboards launched by Oricom are ultra-low energy-consuming digital billboards powered by YuanTai's ePaper technology. MetaTech's E Ink Spectra™ 6 features a wide viewing angle and image quality that approximates that of a paper print, as well as a sharp, poster-like color presentation. Since it relies on reflective ambient light rather than self-illumination, the display remains clear in sunlight. In addition, e-paper only uses a small amount of power to change the screen, and the screen can continue to be displayed even after the power is cut off, so it does not consume any energy at all, which significantly reduces power consumption compared to traditional displays. E-paper billboards can also be battery-powered, making them more flexible in terms of where they can be installed.

Sustainable billboards are suitable for installation in company reception rooms, lobbies, display rooms, as well as shopping malls and sightseeing spots. They are a new way of communication that highlights corporate branding and responds to environmental protection requirements, and open up a new market paradigm for the advertising industry with the use of technology.

Through sustainable billboards as an environmentally friendly communication medium, Oricom is committed to encouraging private companies and local governments to work together to implement more actions in line with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Currently, sustainable billboards have been installed in major stations in Japan, and are expected to be widely used in shopping malls and locations with high demand for advertisements according to different spaces and occasions in the future.
