Institution: In 2024, the global PC market will ship 262.7 million units, with an annual increase of 1%
On January 9th, market research firm IDC reported that PC shipments in the fourth quarter of 2024 increased by 1.8% annually, with global shipments reaching 68.9 million units. For the whole year of 2024, the shipment volume of PCs was 262.7 million units, an annual increase of 1%. Looking ahead to 2025, PC manufacturers are facing multiple obstacles and challenges, making the market outlook unclear and demand planning difficult.
Jitesh Ubrani, IDC's global mobile device tracking research manager, said: "Although the market recovered at a slower pace of growth, there will still be growth in the fourth quarter of 2024, because government subsidies in Chinese Mainland have made the performance of the consumer market better than expected. In addition, the United States and some European countries have also performed strongly because of year-end promotions and enterprises continue to upgrade their hardware before Windows 10 is expected to end support in October 2025.".
Recently, market news came out that Trump, the President elect of the United States, was about to take office on January 20. He predicted that after taking office, he would immediately impose tariffs on products from Chinese Mainland, Mexico, Canada and other countries. In order to avoid high tariffs, American computer brands and channel manufacturers actively solicited goods. PC supply chain manufacturers have stated that generally speaking, the third quarter is the traditional peak for shipments to coincide with the Christmas shopping season in Europe and America, and as the stocking wave comes to an end, operations will enter the off-season by the end of the year. But 2024 is abnormal, with urgent orders suddenly emerging from the end of November, showing a steady off-season.
