Garrett has integrated its walk-through metal detector with the Rohde & Schwarz (“R&S”) QPS201 millimeter-wave screener, a joint solution especially suited for high-risk scenarios such as prisons and loss prevention applications in the precious metals industry. The joint solution is particularly suitable for high-risk scenarios such as prisons, as well as for loss prevention applications in the precious metals industry, where the QPS201 utilizes advanced millimeter wave (mmWave) technology to detect a wide range of materials. In high-security screening scenarios, the Garrett Paragon walk-through metal detector uniquely complements mmWave detection by identifying extremely small or concealed metal threats, providing an additional layer of security against concealed carry items.
The combination of a metal detector and a millimeter wave screening device provides maximum detection capability and comfort for specific loss prevention scenarios and prison applications. The solution is particularly suitable for situations where small or concealed metal objects need to be detected, but at the same time non-metallic objects or substances such as metal powders can be efficiently detected, enabling intuitive and efficient operational processes in combination with the QPS201 system. It is a little-known fact that although some substances are of metallic origin, they can only be reliably detected by metal detectors in solid lump form, a limitation which is compensated for by the R&S QPS201 millimeter-wave screening device, which detects metal powders, particles and compounds in liquid or chemical form. The metal detector recognizes metal objects hidden in skin folds, body cavities and oral cavities, which is particularly important for prison security.
This integrated solution not only improves threat detection, but also respects the privacy of the person being screened, demonstrating the future of security screening technology in a humanized way. The precise area marking function can greatly simplify the key inspection process and provide reliable evidence for incident investigation through the recording of detection results and linkage with video surveillance systems. The system is easy to operate and can be fully controlled via the QPS201 display with integrated alarm results. The process is completely contactless, with neither millimeter wave nor metal detection technologies posing a health risk to screeners or subjects, and unlike X-rays, the electromagnetic radiation generated by these devices is much lower than that naturally found in the environment.
Combining the unique capabilities of metal detectors and millimeter wave screeners is exactly what the precious metals industry and places such as prisons need for the highest level of screening processes,” said Andreas Haegele, Vice President, Microwave Imaging Business Unit, R&S. Through this partnership, both Garrett and we are adding layers of security to our respective products, ultimately benefiting our mutual customers.”
Steve Novakovich, CEO of Garrett Electronics, said, “We are pleased to partner with Rohde & Schwarz to bring two cutting-edge technologies to market. This innovative solution will help our customers create safer environments for work, school and travel, as well as provide new solutions for contraband prevention and loss management.”
